47 drug Dealers jailed in C’ River, says NDLEA

The Cross River Command of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency says it has secured conviction for 47 persons with drug related offences in the last one year.
The state Commander of NDLEA, Mrs. Anthonia Edeh State, made this disclosure in Calabar on Friday.
Edeh said that the number was part of the 200 suspects including 176 males and 24 females arrested by the state command in the last one year.
She said, “Forty-seven convictions were secured at the Federal High Court, Calabar in respect of suspects with drugs related offences.”
According to her, exhibits recovered from suspects during the period stood at 501.3498 kilograms, which include cannabis sativa 501.349 kg; cocaine 16.2 gram; heroin 9.4 gram and psychotropic substances 55.12 gram.
She explained further that the command also recently destroyed five hectares of cannabis sativa farm at Mpara-Ntu forest in Odukpani Local Government Area.
“The command also counselled and rehabilitated a total of 90 drug dependent persons back to the society under the drug demand reduction activities,” she stated.
She called on the general public to always volunteer information on activities of drug barons to help the agency succeed in its task.
Edeh solicited the support of the Cross River State Government in the fight against drug abuse.
“We want the state government to show more concern in the fight against abuse. We appeal to them to assist us with logistics including vehicles and other necessary tools to help us fight this menace,” she said.
The commander said that the theme of this year’s campaign ‘Listen first’ was a clarion call to parents to take more interest in what their children do all the time.
