Winners of last month’s election of the Cross River State chapter of the Association for Orphans and Vulnerable Children Non-Governmental Organizations in Nigeria (AONN), have been sworn in with a call for the body to impact positively on the people they represent.
Stella Odey, Cross River women affairs commissioner in her address at the event charged the body which is a coalition of NGO’s with interests in vulnerable children and orphans representing them to first strive to understand their plight in the state before moving to suggest and act on their behalf for their wellbeing.
Represented by one Asi Archibong, Odey said the collation of data concerning their lifestyle, activities, needs and wants was very vital to the growth and development of the children and orphans.
In a similar vein, the guest lecturer at the event, Bishop Mike Okom in his posited that the issue of vulnerable children is “Not a theory”, pointing out that the children are “All over the streets for us to see” and called on all hands to be on deck to help them.
Those sworn in are; Kenneth Tawo-Odu as coordinator, Agnes Usang as deputy coordinator, Victoria Archibong as the finance officer, Williams Arikpo as the public relations officer, Peter Akwa as secretary and Edikan Victoria as assistant secretary.
