Pele postpones visit to Nigeria postponed

Football legend Pele will no longer be visiting Nigeria this week due to ill health, organisers of the visit have announced.
The Winihin Jemide Series and the Youth Experience Days Africa had planned to bring the Brazilian to Nigeria for the WJS/YEDA Legend Edition from August 11 to 12.
The events lined up for the visit include a street football tournament that would feature 44 youths and a gala night with Pele and other Africa football legends where the football icon’s memorabilia would also be auctioned.
However, a statement from the organisers on Monday said that another date would be announced once the legend had fully recovered from the ailment that also kept him away from the opening ceremony of the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic Games in his home country last week.
“The Winihin Jemide Series & Youth Experience Days Africa have both chosen to postpone the 2016 WJS/YEDA Legend Edition with Pele due to reports of his ill health on Friday,” the statement read.“We are sorry that we have to disappoint the many Pele fans and Legend Edition supporters at this time, who were looking forward to this event. As we pray for his speedy and full recovery, we believe that it would be inconsiderate for us to put his health at risk.
“Our ticketing platforms will be offering a full refund on all tickets purchased and new dates for the event will be announced over the course of the next few weeks. We hope the new dates are suitable for everyone.”
