The horror genre has officially taken over television. With ratings monsters like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story at the forefront of game-changing entertainment, it only makes sense to add more gore to that list. This Fall, The Exorcist will bring new frights to primetime, along with 18 other horror shows
that will probably give you nightmares. Keep reading to see our top
picks for classic horror films that should be remade as TV shows in the
near future — then be sure to check out all the horror shows you might be missing out on this Summer. 1Halloween
Don't you wish you knew more about Michael Myers? We got a glimpse at his backstory in the original Halloween
movie (plus some not-so-hot reboots and sequels), but a TV show could
give more analysis into the man behind the pale-faced mask. As a killer,
he never seemed as malicious as some of the other iconic serial
killers. Everybody's got a story and it's finally time Michael's side
got told.
Paranormal Activity would
work best an anthology series because of the spooky storyline of demonic
possession. One season we could be witnessing the supernatural take
form on a rural farmhouse and the next installment could take place in a
big city like New York where paranormal events unfold as unsuspecting
characters try to uncover the truth behind the madness.
The genius behind Saw and
the rest of the series lies within the masterminds of the FBI agents who
investigate each horrific murder. As an procedural thriller series,
we'd get a suspenseful look at FBI agents piecing together the puzzle of
Jigsaw's wicked crimes. Even more intriguing would be to see how some
of the agents manage to escape (or not?) from his devious traps.
The Ring was truly ahead of
its time. The movie's premise is simple enough: after watching a
specific videotape, in seven days you will die. Think about that theory
in terms of the way we consume viral videos on our smartphones today.
Whether it's on YouTube, Vine, or Snapchat, there's no escaping it. The
threat of trying to convince people to give up social media or face death is actually terrifying enough.
OK, let's be real: there's nothing remotely scary about Chucky.
And that's exactly why we think it would work great as an animated
comedy with the iconic evil doll attempting to commit crimes — yet to no
avail. Think of it as the hilarious horror version of Family Guy with his wife (Bride of Chucky) and son (Seed of Chucky) along for the ride.
The MTV generation seems to be obsessed with campy teen horror shows (Scream, Scream Queens),
so this 1976 cult classic about a telekinetic teen who is bullied at
school and abused at home would fit perfectly within their lineup. Each
week, we'd get a glimpse into Carrie's day-to-day life and take envy in
watching her enjoy the sweet taste of revenge.
If you had a premonition that you were going
to die soon, would you live your life any differently? That's a question
that would haunt the characters in a TV series revolving around the Final Destination curse. The twisted fun of it all would be watching as fate catches up to each person as they desperately try to avoid it.
We want to know what life is like before The Purge
happens? Can you imagine the amount of tension that builds up between
neighbors, classmates, and colleagues before the most dangerous night in
America? Who stirs up trouble with whom and who actually deserves a
good purging by the season finale? Give us a TV show about it so we get
some answers.
