You've survived another tumultuous season of Grey's Anatomy,
and now you need something to fill the void between now and the next
one. The off-season is a scary place to be, but fear not! We've put
together a list of medical dramas and comedies to keep you going until
season 13 kicks off on Sept. 22. 1Private Practice
This Grey's spinoff follows Addison Montgomery as
she opens her own practice in LA. It is certainly more chilled out than
Seattle but still manages to bring the drama. It's the natural Grey's substitute.
Royal Pains follows the life of Doctor Hank Lawson,
who moves to the Hamptons after being unfairly let go from his job in
New York City. His brother joins him out there, and Lawson soon becomes
the top doc among the wealthy residents. It is lighthearted and doesn't
take itself too seriously.
British national treasure Martin Clunes plays Doc Martin, a
curmudgeon of a doctor who moves from London to the countryside where he
grew up. Suffice it to say, the pace and his patients are very
different from his life in the city. It's sweet, funny, and perfect for
bingeing.
This BBC period drama set between the late 1950s and 1960s follows
the lives of midwives working during the baby boom in London's East End.
Sure, it's very different from Grey's Anatomy, but it's a fantastic show and it's also "medical" . . . so it counts.
There's only one season (13 episodes) of Emily Owens M.D.,
so it should only take a day to watch the whole thing. It's a simple
premise: former high school geek Emily Owens is an intern who's finding
her feet at a big hospital. However, she soon learns there's not much
difference between her high school days and her new hospital ones.
